Teen Health

The Youth Health Center at Amherst Regional High School has been in operation since 1996. It is staffed full time by a Nurse Educator through a collaborative partnership between the Cumberland Health Authority and the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board. The services offered at the Health Center can include assistance with physical, emotional and sexual health issues such as over the counter medication for students who are feeling ill, advice on medical issues, birth control, counseling if they are dealing with emotional issues and many more. The service is confidential and clients are made aware of this as well as the limitations i.e. self harm, abuse, or harm to others. Referrals may be made to various community organizations such as Addictions Services, Cumberland Mental Health, etc. as there are many partnerships in place to assist youth as much as needed.

Programs such as an afterschool fitness group, SADD, GSA, Options to Anger, VOICES, and PARTY, offer many opportunities for youth to get involved in the school environment. All of these programs are generated and run through the Health Center. Is a resource for youth at E.B. Chandler Junior High School as well as ARHS and is available for both students and parents. If you require assistance and or information feel free to contact the Health Center through the school line 661-2540.
